Bill Alexander is a native of North Carolina and a graduate of Davidson College and Wake Forest Law School. He founded and manages W. G. Alexander & Associates, an estate planning, elder-law and asset protection law firm in Raleigh. He is well known locally for his Saturday morning radio show on iHeart “Asset Protection Today.” Also, he co-wrote a book entitled “Money Secrets” as an experienced estate planning attorney who also provides financial and insurance advisory services.
Bill Alexander’s law practice was heavily influenced by his family circumstances; while at Davidson, his brother was injured on Interstate 95, was unconscious for two months and survived with traumatic brain injury and serious hip and leg limitations. Hence, Bill learned how to deal with special needs; when his father died, he became his brother’s Trustee as well as his caregiver. He also took responsibility for the management of an elderly family friend with severe dementia which turned into managing a multi-million-dollar charitable trust. When his mother became frail, he managed her needs from independent living through two years of nursing facility care. Hence over time his estate planning and tax practice added elder law and special needs law. As a retired Air Force Judge Advocate (Col.-JAG), he became a VA accredited advisor as part of his elder-law practice.
A lawyer for over 49 years, he is recognized by other attorneys as ‘A-v Preeminent’ the highest peer rating that can be achieved and is named in Marqui Who’s Who as one of America’s top attorneys and was named the 2023 and 2026 Attorney of the Year by “Top 100” Lawyers. He has been named Elder Law Attorney of the year in North Carolina three times by the NC Chapter of NAELA, the National Academy of Elder-law Attorneys. He is an active member and teaches advanced elder-law topics for NAELA, WealthCounsel, and the Mid-South Forum of Estate Planning Attorneys. As a Judge Advocate, he developed and implemented the Human Rights and Humanitarian Law Course for the United Nations Department of Peacekeeping Operations and was assigned to the USAF Special Operations Command during “Enduring Freedom.” Bill has received numerous military and civic awards including the Legion of Merit, the Distinguished Service Medal, and the Order of the Long Leaf Pine.
He works closely with business and family clients on successful strategies for asset protection, government assistance for long term care, wealth transfers, tax, trust, and estate planning as well as trust administration and probate.
